It has been noticed by the members of the Gynaecological Oncology Society of Bangladesh (GOSB) and Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society of Bangladesh (OGSB) that in various forum while presentation is given on HPV Vaccine some presenters completely ignore the actual history of introduction of HPV vaccine (Cervarix) in Bangladesh. The cervarix was introduced in 2008 in Bangladesh through a pilot project named Pilot Program for Prevention of Cervical Cancer by HPV Vaccination in Bangladesh implemented by Bangladesh Cervical Cancer Vaccination Program Committee (BCCVPC). On complication of that project a report was submitted to committee. That was the first phase of introduction of HPV Vaccine in Bangladesh. Dream of the committee was to introduce the vaccine in EPI program of Bangladesh. Subsequently with the reference of that pilot program EPI of Bangladesh applied to GAVI for financial support and ultimately as safety and immunogenicity of Cervarix has been tested by pilot program in Bangladesh GAVI responded very easily and provided support for a Demonstration project in Bangladesh.
The Demonstration project was implemented by EPI of Bangladesh in Gazipur District by vaccinating 33,000 girls of 10 years old by 2 doses of cervarix.
The members of the Bangladesh Cervical Cancer Vaccination Program Committee believe that the government will expand their hand to incorporate cervarix in the EPI program of Bangladesh.
